Guests at Middlewick may enjoy our indoor swimming pool but for those of you who want to experience open-air swimming, here are 5 outdoor places to swim close to us here in Glastonbury.

Bank Holiday Weekend in May brings the opening of our closest outdoor pool, the Greenbank swimming pool in Street.  It stays open daily until September.

1. This art deco Outdoor Pool was built by the Clark family in 1937 for the residents of Street, particularly women and children, as men usually swam naked in the River Brue.  It is a 30m heated pool and there is also a separate children’s pool and splash area.  There is plenty of green space around the pool to enjoy on a sunny day.  For more details visit their website. http://www.greenbankpool.co.uk/

2. We also have another outdoor Lido in nearby Shepton Mallet.  The 25m pool reopened in 2016 after a £100,000 refit.  There is also outdoor table tennis and a children’s play area.  It opens from May until September.  Here is the website where you can find opening hours and further details. 3.  If you like Wild Swimming you can explore the river at West Lydford. You can swim in the 100m stretch of water that runs alongside the church in this little village.  There is even a rope swing from the bank. 4.  Anyone training for a triathlon or who would like to learn more about open-water swimming should head to the Vospers Quay which is close to Radstock.  There you will find 36 acres of fresh, clear water that has been fed from underground springs.  Vobsters Quay is also an inland diving centre with excellent diving facilities.  There are courses for all levels and experienced divers can explore the bottom of the lake to find an array of attractions including a large commercial aircraft and a 42 ft motor cruiser.  Open from April to October but visit their website for more details.  Vobster Quay Diving Centre

5.  We have 2 Marine Lakes a short drive away from us, Weston-Super-Mare and Clevedon. The Marine lake at Clevedon dates from 1929 and thanks to Lottery funding it had a major facelift in 2016.  Filled up by the tides it is  250m long and 100m wide.   It is shallow around the edges and about 3m deep by the sea wall.  There is a splash pool for smaller children.  For more information visit the Marlens website. There is even a small sand beach with access there.  It is right in the centre of the town so you have access to all the facilities of the Seafront there.
